Sarah Feinmann is a visual artist based in Manchester. Her practice explores both the physical and conceptual layers that shape the landscapes and spaces she encounters in the urban environment. She focuses on capturing the visceral qualities of a moment in time, investigating places, surfaces and artefacts, to reveal their materiality and the histories. Drawn to the overlooked and the out of place, her attention captures the mundane views and edgeland spaces that evoke a sense of loss. She works with paint and collage and combines textures with gestural washes of paint, to create a dialogue between material and mark.
Sarah has a studio at Rogue Artists’ Studios in Manchester. In November 2019 she held a solo exhibition at Roper Art Gallery, Bath. The following year she completed an MA in Fine Art (Project for Places) at UCLAN. She was selected by Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Castlefield Gallery as one of ten artists to take part in the bOlder Talent Development Award for artists over 50. This collective continues to exhibit as Ten Obstructions, with exhibitions across the North West including Castlefield Gallery, Wigan New Art Spaces, St Helens World of Glass, Salford Art Gallery, Rogue Artists’ Studios and Hive, Bolton.
In 2024 she exhibited in Forty Years of the Future, celebrating artists who showed in Castlefield Gallery’s inaugural year in 1984. She also exhibits regularly in group shows and opens including the Manchester Open 2024 at HOME, the Spring and Summer Exhibitions 2024 at Saul Hay Gallery, Bury Open and Tarpey and Auto Amor. Alongside Ten Obstructions, Feinmann exhibits with other collectives including A Small Space, Spark and most recently with The Pearls at Manchester Contemporary.
